Welcome to the introductory column of: “4 The Leader in You!” I would like to invite you to take a journey with me and (in this article) acquaint you with some of the places I’d like us to visit together.
John Maxwell made one of the weightiest comments on the relevance and importance of leadership I have ever heard. “Everything rises and falls on Leadership.” That statement is the reason that GJ allows this column to appear on his site. As we move to the next paragraph, think about that point for a second. “Everything, rises and falls on Leadership.”
If in fact “Everything, rises and falls on Leadership” that means that your money rises and falls on your leadership. If your money is not what it should be, take a look at the quality of your (personal) leadership. If your life is not what it could or should be, I suggest you take a look at your leadership. If your bank account does not have the number of zeros it should, you must evaluate the quality of your leadership. All people want money, but they do not want to LEAD!
I humbly submit to you that if you want money (and more of it) you will have to lead. You may have to lead a huge company. You may have to lead a mid-size organization. You may have to lead a group. You may even have to lead a small group. You will have to lead YOURSELF!
It’s ok if you do not see yourself as a leader. It’s ok if you don’t have anyone else with you to lead. If all you have is the person in the mirror and a dream that’s ok too. You don’t need a big title to be a leader. You don’t need a whole battalion of people with you to lead. If you don’t have any of that, it doesn’t remove you from the ranks of leaders and leadership. To start all you need is to accept the challenge of responsibility to lead yourself first.
There is a leader in you. If you knew that already…That’s Great! We are about done with our introduction and you are ready for the next step in our journey. If you just found out that there is a leader in you…That’s Great Too! Welcome aboard, and get ready. We have a long way to go and a short time to get there! (Smokey and the Bandit)
